Education Law Series

We are thrilled to announce our Education Law Series on Empowering Nigerian Students with Education and Students Rights, an exciting and much-needed initiative.

Recently, an undergraduate student in a Nigerian public university said his heartbeat paused each day he resumed classes for three years – he lived outside the campus.

He insisted the school environment gave him goose pimples from a feeling of aloneness, a kind of “all man to himself”. To him, the school environment was not supportive, and he needed to fight for his rights.

This sad experience may not be typical, but it is far from uncommon. Our students’ rights are often disregarded.

Yet, an ecosystem of students aware of their fundamental rights benefits the educational system and guarantees fairness, dignity, and respect in every classroom and school’s activities.

To us, it is about inspiring action. This education law series is our bold response to these challenges.
We know the criticisms. Emphasizing consumer protection in the educational system favours students’ and parents’ rights to compete in the market. Still, it hurts the needed cooperation to improve education for all.

Will the student’s rights movement not cap the school’s discretionary powers and autonomy? Or ‘isn’t consumer rights advocacy the job of the government and NGOs?

This Series will simplify complex legal principles into practical, actionable tools for students, parents, and educators.

Topics like course changes, tuition reviews, abuse of students, data protection, freedom from discrimination, and harassment in schools will come alive in dynamic sessions, starting with our free Instagram Live session.

We recognize that a culture of respect for students’ rights is the seedbed of students’ wellness, and it uplifts alumni relations between students and schools.

Nigeria’s educational system must boldly move towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education by creating an education sector where every Nigerian student feels protected and empowered.
